City of Waves: VivoCity, a Coffee Table Book
To commemorate VivoCity’s second anniversary, Mapletree has commissioned a coffee table book titled City of Waves: VivoCity. This hard-cover work of over 200 pages chronicles the evolution of VivoCity from vision to reality.
The book traces the development of the design and layout of VivoCity to its final form and how the team achieved the successful integration of artistic design with the commercial considerations that are necessary for the success of a retail destination like VivoCity.
“From the beginning, we envisioned VivoCity to be more than just a place for shopping; we wanted to build a distinctively different retail and lifestyle destination that would offer visitors a refreshing experience with a vibrant mix of retail and entertainment options. We mapped out our unique vision and concept together with technical and creative experts such as acclaimed architect Toyo Ito with a single goal in mind - to create a landmark that best represented Singapore. VivoCity has indeed lived up to this vision and we wanted to share the insights and knowledge that we have gained from the development with those passionate about design and architecture such as students and practitioners in the architecture and retail industries through this coffee table book: City of Waves: VivoCity,” said Mr Edmund Cheng, Chairman of Mapletree Investments Pte Ltd.
City of Waves: VivoCity will be launched on 29 November. Thereafter, it will be on sale at bookstores including Page One, Borders and Kinokuniya for $54.90. Excerpts of the book will be shown in a fun and interactive exhibit from 1 December to 31 December at Level 1, VivoCity. A specially fabricated scaled-up exhibit of the book featuring a number of spreads from the actual publication will be showcased within VivoCity. The public will be able to flip through the pages and view the contents of the book and will also have the chance to win a copy of the book in contests requiring answers found in the book!
Fireworks extravaganza by Feerie from France
To end the celebrations on a high note on 29 November, one of the world’s most famous pyrotechnic choreographers, Féérie will put up a spectacular fireworks display after the musical.
Since 1992, Féérie has been designing and performing some of the most elaborate and sophisticated pyrotechnic shows all over the world, in places through Europe, Africa, the Americas and now Asia. Féérie has won several accolades such as clinching first place at the 7th International Festival of Pyrotechnic in Barcelona in 2004 and also first place at the Cannes International Festival of Pyrotechnic Art for three consecutive years from 2005 to 2007.
Feerie’s creator, Joel Harmon, has earned his reputation by bringing “life, spirit and soul” into a fireworks display through the Synchronized Pyrotechnical Choreography and audiences in Singapore will not be disappointed! Féérie fireworks will launch at 9:15pm on 29 November 2008, so be sure to catch the spectacular show from vantage points along the waterfront promenade!
